Kullu Valley known locally as Dev Bhoomi or Abode of the Gods is blessed with outstanding natural beauty. Glacier, snow fed streams and rivers, hills peaks and majestic and pine forests abound. The weather and the seasons are another reason why it is such an attractive destination. In spring the valley erupts with gorgeous fruit blossoms of different colours and the temperature is ideally mild during the day and cool in the evenings. In summer time the pleasant climate attracts many visitors seeking to escape the scorching heat of Indian plains. Autumn provides around three months of beautiful clear day weather. Winter comes cool and crisp with occasional snowfall, although the higher hill and mountains will keep a picturesque coating of snow throughout winter.
Apart from tourism the tow other mainstays of the local economy are weaving using local wool and growing fruit. There are countless factory/showrooms where you can witness the transformation of the wool into fine shawls, scarves and other high quality garments. In September or October hundreds of local deities gather at Kullu for the celebration of the Dussehra Festival which lasts for seven days. Dance troop come to perform from the world and there are many exhibits and stalls of traditional handicrafts as well as funfair rides and other fairground attraction.
Simply put Kullu/Manali is the premier holiday destination of the entire Himalayas.
